MEET THE ARTIST
You may be wondering, “Who is this person, and why is she making these things?” The short answer is, Valerie Tucker, and I just can't help it. I’ve been creating art for most of my life, but I probably first really applied myself to it in college. I received a B.A. degree in Fine Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and did some graduate work in painting at San Jose State University. I have sold my work both privately and through galleries and co-ops. Some of the other work from my portfolio is represented by Renee Foutouhi Fine Art in New York. I am listed in the Still Life section at that site.

I am attracted to words: their origins, how we use them, what they can convey, and even just how they sound. My artwork tends to be narrative in nature. I also lean towards humor and welcome serendipity. Something unexpected. A whimsy moment. An element of play.

What I'm Reading

Here's what I'm feeding my brain at the moment. Perhaps it gives some insight into what inspires me. Click on the book if you'd like to take a look at it on Amazon.com.

Review by A.S. Byatt, Washington Post: Alberto Manguel is an expert explorer of what the French call the imaginaire, a word that combines imagination, imagery and the formation of images in the mind. He is the author of a very practical Dictionary of Imaginary Places. He understands the logic of Lewis Carroll's world of wonderland and mirrors better than almost anyone else. His own imagination is supple and generous, and his work is full of surprises. He is in fact someone who works accurately and idiosyncratically in ordinary language, to our delight.
